Guyton Man Arrested After Bomb Search

A Guyton man is in the Effingham County jail tonight after police found bomb-making materials at his home. Christopher Cox was arrested at his home on Midland Road last night. Police believe he planned to make explosives in his house.

Deputies with the Effingham County Sheriff's Department evacuated four other homes while the Sheriff's Department, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the A.T.F searched the house and neighborhood. The families were allowed back several hours later.

Effingham County Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie told WTOC the houses were evacuated as a precaution. "Anytime you're messing with explosives, I consider it extremely dangerous," he said.

Cox's arrest comes after an extensive investigation. The Effingham County Sheriff's Department says more charges may be filed.
