Former Savannah alderman Pete Liakakis will run for chairman of the Chatham County Commission as a Democrat. The Savannah native served eight years as vice chairman of the Savannah City Council. He lost in a runoff against Otis Johnson for mayor of Savannah last fall.
Liakakis promises to provide greater fiscal responsibility to taxpayers, stronger emphasis on law enforcement, economic development and jobs. A more formal announcement is planned when Liakakis officially qualifies later this month.
