One Dead in Shopping Plaza Shooting

Traffic was backed up at a busy Savannah intersection as police searched for a suspect. Traffic was backed up at a busy Savannah intersection as police searched for a suspect.

A woman in her 40s was fatally shot in broad daylight in the shopping plaza at the intersection of Montgomery Cross Road and Waters Avenue. As police sought a suspect, traffic stopped at this very busy intersection on Savannah's south side

Police say the woman was accosted by at least one suspect while in her car. "Robbery appears to be the motive," said Sgt. Mike Wilson of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department. "She was shot at least once."

Police say the woman tried to drive away. "She drove out of the parking lot, as she was driving out, she slumped over her wheel, lost control of her vehicle and struck another car," said Wilson.

Police blocked traffic while they investigated the scene, questioned witnesses, and cased the area for suspects. "This entire intersection has become a crime scene now," said Wilson.

The victim was transported to the hospital but did not survive. Her name has not yet been released pending notification of her family.

Police are still looking for the suspect or suspects. If you have any information, you are urged to call CrimeStoppers at 234-2020.
