Man charged in West 61st Street shooting

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Rakeen Marcel Engram, 19, of Savannah, has been arrested and charged in a shooting that left a 4 year old and his aunt with minor injuries May 3.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police, U.S. Marshals and SCMPD K-9 units arrested Engram at a hotel on West Montgomery Street.

Police charged Engram with four counts aggravated assault in the 3:45 p.m. incident in which shots were fired at a car that was transporting a 20-year-old woman and a child near Giles St. and Franklin St. in Tatumville. West Chatham Precinct officers were looking for the scene of the shooting when a 911 call directed Central Precinct officers to the 400 block of West 61St Street.

Authorities found the child who had a wound to his thumb, his aunt who had been grazed by a bullet and the car with bullet holes. Both the child and the woman were transported to Memorial University Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Tatumville residents told police that they saw the burgundy automobile and a silver-blue sedan and heard several shots fired.
