A young boy is recovering after being bitten by a dog over the weekend.

Shirley Gamble, the mother of 7-year-old Ebine Griffin, said he's back at home after being released from the hospital on Sunday night. However, he's extremely sore and unable to walk.

Gamble said her son was walking in Burger King's parking on White Bluff Road when a three-year-old Chinese Shar Pei, jumped out of a car window and attacked her son.

"My uncle told me to go get my sister's phone and then a dog attacked me," Ebine said. The boy's uncle, who was waiting in the car for Griffin to return, called his mother.

"I was hysterical. I was screaming and hollering because I didn't know what was done or how it turned out because I know those types of dogs are capable of killing people - so that was the first thought that went through my head," Gamble said.

The dog bit Griffin several times, resulting in a severe gash to his left thigh. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police said the dog also bit Griffin on the arm.

Police said the dog is owned by Scott Reynolds, of Garden City, and was sitting in the back seat of Reynolds' car when the dog saw the child and jumped out of car window.

Reynolds, his wife, and a witness pulled the dog from the child. Police said this was the second time the Shar Pei has been involved in such an attack and as a result, Animal Control officers put the dog down.

Reynolds was charged after the attack with having a dog-at-large. He also faces similar charges in Garden City from a Feb. 17 incident.
