Update: SCMPD traffic investigators have arrested a suspect in a hit-and-run incident this morning that took the life of a young Savannah man.

Acting on a tip from a citizen, police responded to Tranquilla Drive at Largo Drive where they found a man asleep at the wheel of a damaged vehicle.

"A citizen contacted police said there was a vehicle on Tranquilla Lane off Largo Road that showed heavy front-end damage. The driver of the vehicle seemed to be slumped over asleep," said police spokesman Bucky Burnsed.

Investigators identified the vehicle as that from this morning's fatal hit and run. The driver is identified as John Wilson, 27, of Savannah. He's been charged with DUI and leaving the scene of a fatal accident. Police say they expect further charges as the investigation proceeds. WTOC has a team on this story and will have full reports today on THE News.

Savannah-Chatham police traffic investigators are trying to find out if a traffic fatality on Savannah's south side could be a hit and run. Just after 4am this morning, someone called police saying a young man was lying in the middle of White Bluff Road just north of Eisenhower Drive. The caller also said that the man may have been hit by a car.

When police and an ambulance arrived on the scene, they found that the man was already dead. They immediately closed off the northbound lanes of White Bluff Road in that area and notified forensics officers and traffic investigators.

Police have identified the victim as 20-year-old Kevin Taylor of Savannah.
