A 20-year-old man was killed this morning on Savannah's south side. He was struck by a car as he was walking to work. Later, a woman called police about a suspicious car in her neighborhood with a lot of damage on the hood, and after an investigation, police linked that car to this morning's fatal hit and run.

"We responded with emergency personnel where the young man was pronounced dead at the scene," said Savannah-Chatham police spokesman Bucky Burnsed.

The victim was Kevin Taylor of Savannah. As police were searching for the car that hit the Taylor, they got another call about a suspicious car in a Southside neighborhood.

"A short time later, a citizen contacted police saying there was a vehicle on Tranquilla Lane off Largo Road that showed heavy front-end damage," said Burnsed.

The damaged car belonged to 27-year-old John Wilson of Savannah. When police arrived on Tranquilla, they had no problem finding him. "The driver of the vehicle still appeared to be in the vehicle, slumped over, still asleep," Burnsed told us.

Police arrested Wilson and have charged him with a DUI and fleeing the scene of a fatal accident. Wilson was taken to Memorial Health for an evaluation and is now at the Chatham County Detention Center awaiting an arraignment. Police say additional charges are expected as the investigation proceeds.
