SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
Neighbors are breathing a sigh of relief after Savannah-Chatham Metro Police have a second person in custody related to the shooting that happened earlier at Bull and Broughton streets in downtown Savannah.
Residents were told to stay inside their homes as police searched the area on and around Milton Street Thursday.
The suspect ran after driving off in a car on Milton Street before crashing it into a utility pole, according to SCMPD spokesperson Julian Miller.
Since about 8:30 a.m. Thursday, residents were ordered by police to stay inside their homes.
Neighbors were in shock to see their usually peaceful and quiet neighborhood flooded with police.
"Police knocked on my door and told us to stay inside the house. They told us they would let us know when it was over," said a neighbor.
At about 12 p.m., police caught the suspect in a wooded area near a set of railroad tracks just off Milton Street.
Police searched for the suspect by air with a helicopter and on foot with the assistance of police dogs.
