SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Two men accused of a kidnapping and hostage situation on Thursday were denied bond in court Friday morning.
Kevin Dale Brooks, 26, is charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault on a police officer, burglary, possession of a controlled substance and armed robbery.
Brian Jones, 23, is charged with burglary, armed robbery, false imprisonment and a traffic offense.
At about 8 a.m. Thursday, Earl Hamilton, 60, drove up to Savannah-Chatham Police Domestic Violence Det. Trina Mayes on Broughton Street in a silver Jaguar, rolled out of the car and told her that the man in car had kidnapped him and was forcing him to withdraw money from a credit union.
Mayes fired a shot at the car, which hit the windshield, when Brooks refused to stop moving into the front seat with his gun as ordered by Mayes, according to police.
Brooks then jumped out the car while it was still rolling and headed to the Old Pink House. Responding officers evacuated the restaurant and searched for him. Brooks was found hiding in the kitchen and was arrested.
Hamilton later told police his 12-year-old son was being held at the house by an accomplice of Brooks.
The preliminary hearing for Jones and Brooks is scheduled for June 7.
Brooks was also wanted for an armed robbery in Pooler on Tuesday, according to the Pooler Police Dept. He being arraigned right now on that charge as well.
