DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) The Darlington County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting death of a Hartsville man Saturday night.

Captain Andy Locklair, spokesperson for the Darlington County Sheriff's Office, tells WMBF News that officers responded to a shooting in the Centerville area around 8:18 p.m. Saturday evening that left one man dead.

The shooting occurred on the 200 block of Centerville Road near the ball field, Locklair said, and began as an altercation between the suspect and victim.

Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee says that the victim, 29-year-old Lee Edward Jackson, Jr. of Hartsville, died at a local hospital at 9 p.m. Saturday as a result of a gunshot wound. An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday in Newberry.

Jackson's death has been ruled a homicide, Hardee said.

Locklair said one suspect was arrested shortly after the shooting. That suspect, 19-year-old Nelson LeGrant McDaniel Jr. of Hartsville is being charged with murder, but more charges are possible.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the altercation. McDaniel's bond hearing will be Monday at 4 p.m. at the Darlington County Detention Center Court.
