BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) -

The Gullah Festival began Friday with Family Day and runs until May 27 at the Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park in Beaufort.

"Bring your blankets, bring your chairs - we want you to come and bring a happy heart - and sit and enjoy yourselves for the whole weekend," said Sharon Joyce-Millen, of the festival Production Committee.

The gates opened Friday at 10:30 a.m. The official opening ceremony takes place at 4 p.m. Rev. Dr. William Galloway will preside. The Yoruba Drummers & Dancers of Sheldon will perform. The Miss Gullah Teen Pageant and Kings of the Evening takes place at 6 p.m.

An Evening of Jazz and Blues starts at 9 p.m. Admission for this concert is $15.

Saturday's Waterfront Park events kick off at 9 a.m. Events start at 10:30 a.m.  On Sunday, the festival starts at 9 a.m. with an Hour of Power Worship service with Pastor Edward Johnson, of the Union Baptist Church in Port Royal. The day closes with the Ray Shinnery Blues and the Manhattans.
