You'll soon be able to catch a CAT online. That's just one of several big changes in store for Chatham Area Transit. Today the Chatham County Commission adopted the 2005 proposed budget. The budget will allow CAT to add security cameras to its buses, along with a satellite system called the automatic vehicle location system (AVL).
With AVL, riders will be able to find the location of their bus just by logging on to a website. CAT officials say with this approved budget they hope to cover several capital projects.
"We do a lot of things with technology, a lot of things to improve the level of service that we give to the community," said CAT's Scott Lansing. "Improve communications between us and our customers or potential customers to make riding the buses a little more friendly."
CAT officials hope to have the cameras and tracking systems installed on the buses by the end of the year.
