ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GA (WTOC) - The body of a Third Infantry Division soldier who went missing in St. Simons Island's waters over the weekend was recovered by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources at 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Third Infantry Division Public Affairs Office.
Staff Sgt. Calvin Leblanc was discovered near the pier. He disappeared Sunday night while swimming with his family near East Beach. He was declared dead by the Glynn County coroner at 9:45 p.m.
Glynn County police assisted with the recovery.
Third Infantry Division expresses its deepest condolences to the family members of Staff Sgt. Leblanc, according to a statement.
Chaplain and family support are being offered to the soldier's family.
