SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Chatham County Department of Engineering is hosting another open house about the Johnny Mercer Pedestrian Improvement Project.
The meeting will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at May Howard Elementary School at 115 Wilmington Island Rd.
A presentation will be given at 6 p.m. The public can take a look at the proposal, ask questions and comment on the project.
The proposed project would involve installing an 8-foot wide, multi-use path and 5-foot wide sidewalks beginning at the intersection of Concord Road and Penn Waller Road, north to the intersection of Penn Waller Road and Johnny Mercer Boulevard, and west approximately 300 feet past Mercer's Plaza on Johnny Mercer Boulevard.
Traffic changes on Johnny Mercer Boulevard would include installing two one-way pairs for approximately 1,600 feet of the corridor and upgrading traffic signals at the Walgreen's intersection and the Ace Hardware intersection on Johnny Mercer Boulevard.
The new traffic lights would be interconnected with the existing signal at the intersection of Johnny Mercer Boulevard and Penn Waller Road to optimize traffic flow.
The public can submit written statements about the project until June 23 to:
