FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) One man has been charged following the early morning car crash that killed a Florence County man on Monday.

Lance Corporal Sonny Collins, spokesman for the South Carolina Highway Patrol, says the accident occurred around 5:40 a.m. on Alligator Road when the driver of a Mercury 4-door traveling south lost control of their vehicle and crossed the center line into oncoming traffic, striking a 2009 Yamaha motorcycle.

Collins said the driver of that motorcycle was wearing a helmet.

According to Florence County Coroner Bubba Matthews, the motorcyclist, identified as 54-year-old Ronald M. Hackett of Effingham, died as a result of his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities believe Hackett was on his way to work when the crash occurred.

Alligator Road was blocked for several hours as the South Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the crash.

On Wednesday, the driver of the Mercury, 36-year-old Jackson Joseph Lynch, was taken into custody and charged with felony DUI resulting in death, Sonny Collins said.

He remains in the custody of Florence County Detention Center.
