Witness sought in May 17 downtown standoff

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police are asking the public's help in finding Savannah man who is believed to have information on a kidnapping and standoff that tied up downtown Savannah on May 17.

Nicholas Ryan Fields, 33, who formerly lived on Kelly Road in Pooler, is believed to have information the case, according to police.

Kevin Dale Brooks and Brian Jones were charged with entering the home of Earl Hamilton on Milton Street on the night of May 16 and holding him and his son hostage overnight.

On May 17, Hamilton told police he was forced by Brooks to drive to Broughton Street to withdrawal cash and he stopped a SCMPD detective to let her know of the situation. Brooks was armed in the car and was ordered to stop by the detective, when he didn't, the detective fired her gun, according to police.  

Brooks ran from Broughton Street and into the Olde Pink House restaurant, where SWAT and police took him into custody.

He is charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault on a police officer, burglary, possession of a controlled substance and armed robbery.

Jones is charged with burglary, armed robbery, false imprisonment and a traffic offense. Police said Jones ran from Hamilton's home that had been surrounded by SWAT members near Tatumville.
