HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC) - There was a party at Fort Stewart on Thursday as Third Infantry Division soldiers celebrated the 237th birthday of the U.S. Army. The ceremony focused on the history of both the Third ID - since 1917 - and the army itself - since it was formed of New England militia units in 1775.
"Our army was established … to do great things for our nation and established to deter those that want to do bad things to us, said Division Cmd. Sgt. Maj. Edd Watson. "I can just tell you, clearly, that we've been successful for all 237 years and we will continue to be successful for the future."
