BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) - Three Bluffton teens have been identified in connection with a several vehicle thefts around southern Beaufort County over the last month. Two are still wanted by sheriff's office.
They're accused of stealing more than a 12 vehicles for joyriding, then ditching them right afterward. Several of the stolen vehicles were damaged and three of them were found in local ponds.
Demetrius James Arroyo, 18, was arrested Thursday afternoon by Bluffton police on vehicle theft charges. Arroyo will face 15 additional counts of grand larceny in connection with vehicle thefts in Bluffton and Hilton Head, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
Two teens are still sought in connection with the thefts. Kevin Alvarez, 17, and a 15-year-old teenage boy are co-defendants who face the same charges and are wanted by authorities, according to the sheriff's office.
The suspects targeted unlocked vehicles in which the keys had been left inside, many from within gated communities.
The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is continuing to work with the Bluffton Police Dept. as the investigation continues.
