Man convicted of 2009 rape, armed robbery

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A jury found a man guilty on all counts in connection with sexual assault and armed robbery that occured on Aug. 20, 2009, according to the Office of the Eastern Judicial Circuit/Chatham County District Attorney's Office.

Maurice Anthony Gordon Jr., of Savannah, was convicted of one count of rape, two counts of aggravated sodomy, one count of armed robbery, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, one count of false imprisonment, one count of influencing witnesses and one count of third-degree cruelty to a child.

Gordon went into the backdoor of the victim's home with a gun, pistol whipped the victim and then proceeded to sexually assault her in front of her 4 year old. He stole the victim's cell phone, took her license and threatened her that if she told anyone, he would come back and shoot her, according to the district attorney's office.

Gordon told police early in the investigation that he had never been at the home at all. But when confronted with DNA that put him at the scene, he said he had been invited to the home and that the contact was consensual, according to the district attorney's office.

Gordon's sentencing date is being scheduled.
