Posted: Updated:
TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) -

Scary moments for folks on Tybee Island on Saturday.

The Tybee Ocean Rescue Team tells WTOC, a seven-year-old boy almost drowned in the waters off the back river, near 19th Street.

Tybee Fire Chief Skip Sasser says lifeguards got the boy breathing again.

He was then transported to Memorial.

His condition is not known.

Chief Sasser says this wasn't the only near drowning this weekend. So far, Tybee life guards saved six other people out of the waters.

Sasser says strong rip currents are to blame.
