HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) - The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating a strong arm robbery that occurred on a south end beach early Sunday morning.
Just after 1 a.m. Sunday, Beaufort County sheriff's deputies responded to the Holiday Inn Oceanfront at 1 S. Forest Beach Dr. on a report of an assault and robbery that had just happened. Two 18 year olds told deputies that they had just been robbed by a group.
The victims told deputies that they had parked at Coligny Plaza and had planned to walk to the beach, when they were confronted by five unknown males who were hanging out in the parking lot. The group made small talk and they all walked to the beach area near the Holiday Inn.
Once there, they smoked a few cigarettes, continued talking and then one of the suspects suddenly rushed one of the victims, according to the sheriff's office.
The suspects began assaulting the two victims and demanded they hand over their wallets and cell phones. The suspects took off in an unknown direction, leaving the victims with minor injuries to the face and head.
The suspects are described as four white males and a black male who are between 18-20 years old. They're 5'8" and 6'0" and weigh between 170 to 200 lbs.
One of the suspects was described as having short blond hair and another had long, black hair. The black male was described as wearing a white and navy blue striped polo shirt and a baseball hat.
