RINCON, GA (WTOC) - The Georgia Department of Transportation has started work on the intersection of State Route 21 and Ninth Street in the city of Rincon.
A new traffic signal is going up and east and west Ninth Street is being widened and reconstructed to accommodate dedicated left turn lanes at the intersection, according to the DOT.
During the road work, there will be lane shifts and workers with flags to direct drivers. Parts of east and west Ninth Street will be closed for periods of time to do the construction work on the turn lanes.
"We ask the traveling public to be careful while traveling through our work zone, and we regret any inconvenience," said C.R. Jackson, Statesboro Area Engineer, in a statement. "Any questions on this project may be referred to my office at the Georgia Department of Transportation, Statesboro Area Engineers Office at 912.871.1103."
Ricketson Construction Co., of Douglas Ga., is contracted to do the work, which is expected to take six months and a cost $440,331.45.
