Man pleads guilty to setting fireworks that sparked brush fire

BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) - A Lowcountry man pleads guilty to starting a brush fire on Lemon Island last month.

Rio Cox, 44, of Beaufort has been charged with two misdemeanor counts after setting off fireworks near the land, which sparked the fire.

That fire shut down Highway 170 for some time as the smoke quickly spread and covered the road.

Court records show Cox paid more than $1,000 in fines.
