SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah Metro police are investigating the shooting death of a 21-year-old man who interrupted an attempted robbery in a lounge parking lot overnight.

It happened around 2 a.m. Monday on Norwood Avenue off of Skidaway Road outside of Deb's Pub & Grub. Police say two patrons went outside to smoke when the suspect came up to them and demanded money. The victims hesitated and the suspect fired a warning shot.

Wesley Franklin, 21, a member of the Isle of Hope and Thunderbolt Fire Departments, was inside Deb's when he heard the shot. He went outside to check out what had happened and was shot in the chest. Franklin was rushed to Memorial University Medical Center but did not survive.

SCMPD Violent Crimes detectives, Southside Precinct officers and K-9 officers searched the area for the suspect but the shooter remains at large.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crimestoppers at 912.234.2020 or text CRIMES (274637). In the body type, include "CStop2020" plus the tip.
