Child Seat Safety Training

With traffic getting more and more congested in the Low Country for the summer, emergency crews are getting a little education in safety. Firefighters from Bluffton and Hilton Head, Beaufort County EMS, and many others are taking a 32-hour class on exactly what child safety seats are appropriate.

According to experts, most cars on the road don't have kids restrained safely. And until now, there was only one person in the region qualified to check child seats.

"We need to educate the parents what the possible dangers are for their children," said Donn Hicks of the Bluffton FD. "And if we can do that we can eliminate this, and if you drive around you won't see children moving around inside cars and so forth while they're driving down."

They hope this knowledge will keep kids safer on the roads.
