BCSO investigates possible murder-suicide

BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating what they believe may be a murder-attempted suicide by man at a Seabrook continuing care retirement community.

An 84-year-old woman discovered slain at her apartment Sunday night. At about 8 p.m. Sunday, Beaufort County sheriff's deputies responded to the Seabrook assisted living community at 300 Woodhaven Lane on a report of two of her clients needing medical attention.

The caregiver told deputies that she was making her regularly scheduled visit to to unit #5202 to attend to 84-year-old Page Cross and her husband, 90-year-old John Cross.

The caregiver found a note on the door declining visitors. Once inside, she found a second note directing her to call 911. She located Page Cross lying in a bed with multiple lacerations. In a second bedroom, she found John Cross, lying on the floor with a gunshot wound and multiple lacerations.

Page Cross was pronounced dead at the scene. John Cross was initially taken to Hilton Head Medical Center. He has since been taken to Savannah for treatment.

The investigation continues with autopsy results pending.
