JASPER CO., SC (WTOC) - School consolidation has been a controversial issue in Jasper County that's generating a lot of differing opinions.
Now that the school board has approved the consolidation, the school district is moving forward with their plans. They've been visiting dozens of business, libraries, and other community areas to hand out fliers in both English and Spanish with information about the upcoming consolidation facts.
Superintendent Vashi Washington said there is a lot of misinformation in the community and they want parents and the community to have the real facts.
Washington said the biggest misconception is that some students would have to be on the bus for two hours. She said it would be just over an hour and 15 minutes.
Washington is planning on rolling out the district's plan to consoidate the schools this fall at Monday night's school board meeting. The meeting started at 6:30 p.m. at the Hardeeville School Auditorium in Hardeeville.
