WASHINGTON (WTOC) -

After years of service all over the world, the Montford Point marines are finally receiving the recognition they deserve.

They received the Congressional Gold Medal on Wednesday afternoon in Washington, D.C.  More than 400 of them, including 21 men from Georgia, attended the ceremony.

About 20,000 African-American recruits were trained at Montford Point - part of what became Camp Lejeune - near Jacksonville, N.C., during World War II.
