Brunswick police mourn K9 officer

BRUNSWICK, GA (WTOC) -

The Brunswick Police Dept. held a memorial on Tuesday for their K9 officer Max.

Max has passed away from kidney failure. Max began his employment with the Brunswick Police Dept. in February 2005. He maintained a 99 percent canine proficiency score.

Max was certified in detecting illegal drug substances. Max worked with the Glynn Brunswick Narcotics Team, Glynn County School Police and the College of Coastal Georgia. He was also responsible for locating two missing children.

    Protestors in downtown Savannah have surrounded Georgia State Senator Michael Williams' deportation bus and are preventing the bus from moving.  At least one person has been arrested so far.     Some young girls in Savannah got the chance to be princesses for a special dance on Saturday evening. This particular dance hosted by Helping Hands of Savannah is for girls who don't get to attend the normal father-daughter dance for any reason. Servicemen in the community step in to accompany the young girls and give them the chance to be princesses for the evening.
