Residents should bring their own comfort items. The American Red Cross will provide water and snacks.

Chatham Emergency Management Agency and American Red Cross are opening a cooling station due to the excessive heat and power outages.

The cooling station is located at Windsor Forest High School at 12419 Largo Dr. in Savannah inside the cafeteria.  It will operate from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday and 12 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

At the height of the storm, about 30,000 county residents were without power, according to CEMA. The hardest hit areas were in west Chatham, Midtown and south side Savannah.

Residents are urged to seek relief from the heat in an air conditioned place during the hottest part of the day.
