Some students will start the next school year a little earlier than usual. Screven County's lengthening the school calendar this fall. Even as students celebrate the last week of school, they're aware that this summer vacation is shorter than in past years. They only have eight weeks off.
But next year will include an extra two weeks of vacation, one in October and one in February.
School leaders say the breaks will rejuvenate students after weeks of study. Parents see points for and against the change.
"I think it is good to give kids the extra breaks during the year, the winter and fall," said parent Gina Bartley. "But I see it being a downfall to parents with young children trying to find daycare."
Classes end Friday and students return August 2. Teachers will report back July 26.
