BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) - A Beaufort educator was honored by the Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Terry Bennett, Director of Grants Management for the Beaufort County School District, was recognized with the Outstanding Leadership Beaufort Alumni award at the chamber's annual Civitas banquet.
Bennett, a second-generation Beaufort native, was a middle school teacher in the district before serving as assistant principal at Shell Point Elementary School, principal at Lady's Island Elementary School and principal at Lady's Island Middle School.
Bennett is a 2006 graduate of Leadership Beaufort, the chamber's program that brings local leaders together to learn about the community and how to make a positive difference in it. Leadership Beaufort builds community leadership through a year-long, in-depth view of cultural, economic, historic, social, educational, environmental and government resources.
Bennett joined the district office staff two years ago, and for the past few months has served as interim principal at Beaufort High School. He currently serves on the Regional United Way Board, the Sheldon Township Coalition, and is a member of the Lady's Island Business and Professional Association.
Bennett was named the 2010 Community Spirit Award winner by the Lady's Island Business and Professional Association for his service as an educator.
