The Jekyll Island Authority and Jekyll Island Art Association are pleased to announce the return of a two-day classical music recital slated for the last weekend in July.
The Franklin Pond Chamber Music Concert will bring performances from both professional and student classical music artists.
On Saturday evening, the Franklin Pond Quartet, members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, will perform a program of acclaimed works by the likes of Mozart, Brahms and more. Additionally, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra bassist and composer Michael Kurth will take the stage to perform and speak on several of his delightful short compositions for string quintets.
On Sunday evening, students, ranging from 14 to 18, with the Chamber will present a concert for a range of musical tastes. The Chamber students are participants in a highly-competitive, six-week summer seminar, in which they have the opportunity to receive artistic guidance in master classes from nationally known musicians of the highest caliber.
Selections in their concert will include a variety of music genres, from Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms, to modern compositions by Eddie Horst, who has written music for Pearl Jam and REM.
The 2012 Franklin Pond Chamber Music weekend marks the eighth summer Jekyll Island has hosted this event, making it a seasonal music favorite for both Island guests and the Chamber musicians.
The Saturday concert will be held July 28 at 2 p.m. and tickets are $15. The Sunday student concert will be held July 29 at 7 p.m. and tickets are $10. Both performances will be held at Mistletoe Cottage, located in Jekyll Island's National Landmark Historic District. For information and tickets, visit www.jekyllisland.com. Tickets may also be purchased at the concert, although advanced reservations are encouraged as tickets are limited.
