Marine shot in his home during robbery attempt

HAMPTON CO., SC (WTOC) - The Hampton County Sheriff's Office is investigating a robbery that left a Marine shot in his home early Sunday morning.

Just after 4:30 a.m., deputies were called to 27805 Pocotaligo Road, in Hampton County, in reference to a male attempting to enter the residence. While en route, deputies were advised of a shooting that had taken place at that same location.

When deputies arrived on scene, they found the 34-year-old male homeowner, whose name has not been released, in the hallway with a single gunshot wound to the chest.

The alleged shooter, seen driving off in a black Chevy Camaro, left the scene before deputies arrived. Soon afterwards, the suspect, identified as Tusvon Jarell Russell of Varnville, South Carolina, was stopped and detained at the intersection of Possum Corner Road and Pocotaligo Road. Charges have not yet been filed.

The 34-year-old Marine was taken to the hospital and his condition is unknown at this time.
