Police, MPs Search for Suspect on Hunter

A man is on the run on Hunter Army Airfield. It all started about 4:30am this morning when Savannah-Chatham police tried to arrest a man thought to be breaking into cars at an apartment complex on Savannah's south side. The suspect jumped into a car and almost hit an officer.

Police chased the car until the driver lost control and crashed into the fence at Hunter Army Airfield on Rio Road. The suspect then jumped the fence and into some woods on Hunter property. Police immediately called for a K-9 unit and notified MPs that the suspect was on base.

MPs and police also called for tracking dogs from Fort Stewart and Effingham County, and the Coast Guard helicopter to assist in the search.

When the suspect is caught, he will be facing multiple local and federal charges.
