Police need the public's help tracking down the man who tried to kidnap a young woman as she jogged in broad daylight.

Jennifer Nguyen, 18, told police she was running in her Villages of LaFayette neighborhood last Thursday in the middle of the day. She said the man pulled up in a red car, pointed a gun at her and told her to get into his car.

"I looked at him a couple of seconds. I didn't stop." said Nguyen.  "I hesitated, and then I just kept running."

Nguyen screamed as she ran, drawing attention to herself.

"She did the very best thing possible to do," said Fayetteville Police Det. Mike Whitlow. "She got away from the threat as quickly as possible."

Nguyen was able help police produce a sketch of the suspect. He's described as being in his early to mid-20s, with dark features, curly unkept hair and a full beard. The suspect may speak broken English.

"I thought he probably might shoot me while I was running, but I prayed to God that he doesn't," said Nguyen.

The man took off in a small red, four-door car that had peeling paint on the hood.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Melissa Peacock at the Fayetteville Police Department at 770-719-4227.
