CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

A wreck on US 80 near Highway 17 south in Faulkville backed up traffic on both highways and the side streets near that intersection Tuesday evening.

Both highways were shut down due to a crash involving a log truck and a pickup truck.

Lt. Hannah Jenkins, of Effingham County Fire Rescue, said the diesel tank on the log truck erupted into flames. She said both drivers were out of their trucks when fire departments arrived and that no one was injured. She said the fire was under control and out within 15 minutes and that EMS checked everyone out.

"We also have many timber companies as well as chip mills along Hwy. 80. We have heavy truck traffic through this area and this is a major thoroughfare for anyone going in and out of Savannah, and into Effingham and Bryan counties," said Jenkins.

Drivers were asked to use Interstate 16 or Highways 21 or 30 as alternate routes. Cleanup of the crash took place until 9 p.m.
