Soon, you'll start seeing more of the security measures being put in place around the Savannah area for the G-8. A permanent fence was just put up around the sheriff's complex, and temporary fencing will soon be constructed as added protection. Temporary fencing will also be put up around both courthouses downtown.
According to the sheriff's department, this will help them protect the important business of the courthouses if a situation gets out of hand. "It restricts access to one opening only, so just one opening has to be shut down in an emergency," explained Sgt. Tommy Tillman. "We don't have to worry about closing the whole building."
The courthouse will be open, but officials are urging people to do most of their business before or after the G-8.
