DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Two people are behind bars as the Darlington County Sheriff's Office continues an investigation following a drug bust.
The DCSO said an undercover agent intercepted a package containing 44 pounds of marijuana that was going to the house of David and Dorothy Green. The agent acted as the delivery man. The DCSO said once the Green's opened the package and discarded the wrapper, drug agents stepped in and raided the home. According to the DCSO, one of the first things it saw was a 2-year-old boy holding a two pound package of marijuana.
Jessica McKnight is the mother of the boy and the daughter of the two arrested. She tells WMBF News that her parents are innocent.
"When I came in the house, I dropped everything. When I walked in, the house was destroyed. My mom and dad were gone. My son was gone and there was DSS papers sitting on the counter for physical neglect," McKnight said.
McKnight said her parent's are each being held on $35,000 bond. They are both charged with trafficking marijuana and unlawful conduct of a child.
McKnight said she believes the package was intended for another house.
"My son was here and they claim that my child was walking around with, you know, the marijuana in his hand. I don't believe that for one second because my mom has cared for my children from day one. She would never ever ever EVER let my son around any kind of drugs."
The undercover agent disagreed.
"In the house was a 2-year-old child who was holding one of the packages of marijuana," The anonymous undercover agent said.
McKnight said she is going to fight for her parent's freedom.
"I just want everyone to know that my mom and dad are innocent, they are good people," McKnight said.
