Oglethorpe Mall Installs Barriers During G-8

Oglethorpe Mall is taking some precautions before the G-8 summit crowd gets to town. Mall workers are putting up barriers to keep vehicles and protestors out during the summit. They'll place the obstacles at every mall entrance except the one on White Bluff Road, and they will be locked after the mall is closed.

The barriers will be removed when the G-8 summit is over at the end of next week.

"Since it's so close to Hunter, it makes sense as a rallying point for demonstrators to come and march over to Hunter, and we don't want that to happen," said general manager Phil McConnel.

McConnel says the mall will remain open during its normal hours.
