G-8 Traffic Restrictions

During the period of Sunday, June 6 through Friday, June 11, several traffic control measures will be in place for historic downtown Savannah. The city has provided these resources:

Hunter Army Airfield
To support the G8 Summit, Hunter’s Montgomery Gate will be closed from 5am on June 6 until 9pm on June 10. Hunter’s Wilson Gate (Stephenson Avenue and White Bluff Road) will be open 24-hours/day commencing 5am on June 6 and remain open until 9pm on June 10. Due to the limited access onto Hunter and increased security at the gates during this period, motorists can expect increased delays at all gates.

Lotts Island and the Hunter Golf Course’s back nine will be closed from June 6-10. Hunter’s Gymnasium will be closed from June 6-11.

Hunter Army Airfield will be closed for recreational bicycle riding from 5 a.m. on June 6 through 9 p.m. on June 10.

 

Brunswick/St. Simons Island/Sea Island
Georgia DOT advises of no commercial Traffic on Sidney Lanier Bridge as well as other restrictions:

No Commercial vehicles will be allowed to cross Sidney Lanier Bridge between June 5, 2004 and June 11, 2004. All commercial vehicles bound for St. Simons Island or Sea Island will have to arrive via US 17/ SR 25 southbound.

Commercial vehicles to Brunswick from I-95 northbound must use exit 36A or B, US 341/ SR 27 into Brunswick.

Commercial vehicles to St. Simons/Sea Island from I-95 northbound must use exit 38, SR 25 Spur to US 17/SR 25 southbound.

Commercial vehicles to Brunswick from I-95 northbound must use exit 36A or B, US 341/SR 27 or Exit 38, SR 25 Spur.

Commercial vehicles to St. Simons/Sea Island from I-95 southbound must use exit 38, SR 25 spur to US 17/SR 25 southbound.

Commercial vehicles on US 84/SR 520 to Brunswick must travel I-95 northbound to exit 36A or B US 341/SR 27 into Brunswick.

Commercial vehicles on US 84/SR 520 to St. Simons/Sea Island must travel I-95 northbound to exit 38, SR 25 Spur to US 17/SR 25 southbound.

Commercial vehicles on I-95 to Jekvll Island must use exit 29, US 17/SR 25/SR 520.

All Colonel's Island commercial traffic must use exit 29. US 17/SR 25/SR 520.

All Mayor's Point Terminal commercial traffic must use exit 36A, US 341/SR 27 or Exit 38, SR 25 Spur.

All motorists should allow additional travel time for St. Simons/Sea Island. Also, please be aware of slow or congested traffic between June 5, 2004 and June 11, 2004.
