Traffic Concerns Due to G-8

A huge concern for Savannah residents this week is traffic. They want to know how to avoid major traffic delays in and around the city. With road closures, detours, and security checkpoints around the city, be prepared for delays.

Yesterday, concrete barriers went up around downtown, shutting down roads and intersections like MLK and Bay Street,  parts of Congress Street and several others. There is a big police and military presence in the area, ready to lend a hand.

But if you don't need to be in downtown Savannah, many say try to avoid the area all together. "There are going to traffic delays downtown so just bear with us," said Sgt. Anthony Gallo with the police force's traffic unit. "If you can avoid it stay out of downtown."
