Fire Displaces Family

An overnight fire on Savannah's east side left a duplex damaged and at least two people looking for a place to live. Just after 2am this morning, Savannah firefighters were called to a house fire on California Avenue, just west of Pennsylvania Avenue. When they arrived, firefighters found the kitchen area engulfed with flames and smoke.

There are two people who live there, a woman and her young daughter. They were able to make it out without injury as firefighters went to work. The two people living in the other half of the duplex also got out.

The part of the duplex where the fire started suffered heavy damage. The other part was filled with smoke. Firefighters are still searching for the cause.
