Effingham Co. deputy passes away

EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Effingham County sheriff's Deputy George Allen has died after a long illness.

Allen served in law enforcement for more than 25 years. He had with the Effingham County Sheriff's Office since 1998.

"George will not only be missed by his family and the Effingham County Sheriff's Office, but the citizens of Effingham County as well," Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie said in a statement. "George was not only a friend, but also a public servant who dedicated his life to serving the citizens."

A visitation will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Riggs Funeral Home. A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Riggs Funeral Home. A grave side escort will leave Riggs at 11 a.m. Monday and head to Hill Crest Abbey West on Dean Forest Road.
