5,500-acre buffer created around Fort Stewart

HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC) -

If fences make good neighbors -- what does 5,500 acres do?

That's the amount of property the Georgia Land Trust has acquired to act as a natural buffer between Fort Stewart and the residential neighborhoods around the base. The land was acquired with a U.S. Department of Defense grant and is on its eastern edge, between Richmond Hill and Hinesville.

Rayonier Forest Resources owned the property and will continue to use it under lease.
