2 pedestrians robbed at gunpoint in Beaufort

Beaufort police are searching for a gunman who robbed two women on Saturday night.

Beaufort police responded just before 10 p.m. Saturday. Two women told police they were walking in the 1000 block of Craven Street when someone walked up behind them and asked to look inside their purses. They said no and saw that he had a pistol, according to police. The man took their purses, ran up West Street and turned onto North Street. No one was injured.

Police set up a perimeter and a BCSO K-9 was requested to do a search. A witness told police a man fitting the suspect's description got into a red four-door SUV and left the area. 

Police said the suspect is described as a black man between 18 and 35 years old. He's 6'2" tall and weighs about 160lbs. He was wearing a black T-shirt, jeans and a knit hat.
