Brunswick man nabbed in pawn shop burglary

A Brunswick man is charged with burglary after police and firefighters find him hiding in a ventilator shaft of a building.

Brunswick police were called at about 2:24 a.m. Friday to the T & C Pawn Shop in the 3000 block of Community Road after the burglar alarm went off.

Sgt. Jesse Gibbs saw a suspect inside the shop crawling on his hands and knees so we wouldn't be seen by surveillance cameras, according to Brunswick police.

Gibbs told responding police units to set up an exterior perimeter and also requested a ladder truck from the Brunswick Fire Department to assist the officers in gaining access to the roof of the business.

Gibbs and Ofc. James McQuaig searched the roof area and found a shot gun, burglary tools, and the burglary suspect, who was trying to hide  inside an exterior ventilator shaft, according to police.

David McCloud Bens, 34, was arrested and charged with burglary (forced entry), possession of burglary tools and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Bens was taken to the Glynn County Detention Center.
