Suspicious Package Reports Up

A suspicious package shut down Johnson Square and the surrounding streets today. Federal officers, Savannah-Chatham police, firefighters, and the bomb squad swarmed the square. They also blocked off streets, and even told workers in City Hall to stay indoors and away from the windows.

After sending a robot in to check the object, the bomb squad went ahead and opened it. It turned out to be a foot locker filled with salsa and a bible.

Savannah-Chatham police also said the number of suspicious packages found in Savannah has definitely gone up over this past week.

"More people looking for suspicious packages, plus it's just the nature of things now," explained Lt. Bud Pierce, who's on the bomb squad. "Something's out of place, someone's more apt to call."

All in all, Savannah-Chatham police responded to 15 calls over the past week. Luckily, all turned out to be false alarms.
