EMANUEL CO., GA (WTOC) - A large fire broke out at the Rayonier plant late Saturday night in Emanuel Co.
According to Rayonier spokesperson Mike Bell, the multiple alarm fire started between 8-9 p.m. in the town of Munez. The fire has since been contained to one of the kilns in the plant and the lumber inside is being allowed to smolder. Bell is also thanking firefighters for their quick response to put out the blaze.
At least one firefighter was sent to the hospital after suffering from dehydration but was later released. The firefighter is also a disaster team leader with the American Red Cross in Emanuel Co.
The Red Cross responded to the scene to provide firefighters and other emergency personnel with canteen services. Those services included nutritional and hydration supplies, such as water and snacks.
The fire is currently under investigation while the cause is being determined. The plant will be re-opened sometime later this week.
