Talahi Island teen charged with father's death

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The wife and son of a Talahi Island area man found dead in his garage Sunday face more charges.

The body of Thomas Phelps was discovered Sunday by Savannah-Chatham Metro Police in the garage of his home on Nilsson Drive after another family member saw it there. Island Precinct officers went into the home at about 7:15 p.m. Sunday when no one answered their knock at the door, according to SMCPD.

Preston Phelps, 14, and Judith Ann Phelps, 53, were charged on Sunday with concealing his death.

Preston is now charged as an adult in Phelps' death. Judith Ann Phelps is now charged with making false statements, hindering an investigation and tampering with evidence.

An autopsy on Phelps is scheduled for Wednesday.

Violent crimes detectives continue to investigate the death.
